Kyle J. Wendel is a graduate of Crestview High School and The Ohio State University in Columbus where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.

Upon graduation, he was employed by the Allen County Sanitary Engineering Department in Lima, Ohio as Assistant Sanitary Engineer,
working primarily with water and sewer line installation and wastewater treatment operations.

While living in the Elida area, he also worked part time as a Land Surveyor for Bacon & Associates, Inc.

He began his service in Van Wert County as Assistant County Engineer in 1997, and was elected County Engineer in 2000.

During his first term in office, he has encountered and dealt with various degrees of nature's fury. In three years, the County has survived drought,
flooding, heavy snow and ice, not to mention an F4 tornado, which destroyed the department's maintenance facility and a large percentage of their road equipment.

Through it all, the road, bridge, and ditch projects have continued, the maintenance facility has been rebuilt, and the budget is in surprisingly good shape, which is a tribute to the personnel of the department. Wendel is a licensed Professional Engineer and Professional Surveyor with the State of Ohio.

Mr. Wendel serves on the Van Wert Solid Waste Management District Board, the Thomas Edison Center workshop and housing Board, the Van Wert Republican Central Committee, and the newly formed Graphic Information System (GIS) Committee and the Homeland Security Committee.

He also serves on the Ohio Public Works Commission District 13 Integrating Committee which is responsible for the distribution of millions of dollars each year to public works projects in an eight county area. He is a member of the County Engineers Association of Ohio, the Van Wert Township Trustees Association, the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio, the Ohio State Professional Engineers Association, and the Van Wert Rotary Club.

Wendel is a member of The First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, and is a newly installed member of the Middle Point Snow Twisters Snowmobile Club.

Mr. Wendel is a native of Harrison Township. He and his wife Christie now reside in Hoaglin Township, and are the proud parents of daughters Courtney, Katlyn, and Carly.

He enjoys family life, playing golf, snowmobiling, and is an avid Buckeye fan.
